Office
The office that supports the work of Wycliffe members serving the Bible translation and literacy task in Uganda is located in Entebbe, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria.
Climate
Nearly year round Entebbe is lush and green due to the mild, tropical climate. Although Entebbe sits on the equator, Lake Victoria is 3800 ft. above sea level and so temperatures remain mild. Average daytime temperatures in Entebbe range from 25-32 C (78-90 F), with rain possible throughout the year. The average nighttime temperatures range from 18-24 C (65-75 F).
More on Entebbe
Entebbe is primarily a residential community with the major employers in the area being the international airport, flower farms, fish packaging plants, hotels, and the government. Most businesses are located in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the country’s largest city. Kampala is about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Entebbe.
Economy and Technology
The economy of Uganda has been growing over the past couple of decades and as a result many modern conveniences exist. Nearly the entire country is covered with mobile phone service offered by MTN, Celtel and Mango. There are multiple Internet service providers to choose from, although reliable full-time connections are expensive. Around Kampala one can find large grocery stores, shopping malls, numerous restaurants, new and used car dealers, movie theaters, medical services, multi-star hotels, furniture and appliance stores, universities and colleges, and more. In Entebbe one can find a few smaller grocery stores, resort hotels, the Entebbe Wildlife Education Centre (zoo), and the Botanical Gardens. Basic utility services are available in Entebbe. The water service and telephone service are quite reliable with few outages. The electricity supply has been reduced recently for a number of reasons, but the supply is improving.
